This painting depicts part of Plymouth's Barbican on a typical summers day in 1999, with all it's visitors, tourists and local folk going about their business. At first glance, it is simply a variation on the preceding work, Barbican Nights but some of the premises had changed in the twelve months that separate the painting of the two pieces, and these were reproduced to give an impression of the scene as it was when the painting was composed. About 170 figures are represented in this piece, most of them being drawn from people I met and observed during the research.
