"KMS Bismark Prints" (c. 1939-1941)

NOTE: The words SAMPLE IMAGE do not appear on purchased prints.

This private commission painting depicts the German battleship KMS Bismark, sister to KMS Tirpitz, on 26th. May 1941, under attack from HMS Ark Royal Swordfish Torpedo Bombers.
This attack damaged Bismark's rudders, forcing her to head for Brest to dock down. She was caught en route and sunk by ships of the Royal Navy. Her original blue and white diagonal stripe disruptive paint scheme, made differentiating her from the similar looking KMS Prinz Eugen very difficult so was painted over just before the two ships parted company.
