"Drying the Ovies" (c. 1963)

NOTE: The words SAMPLE IMAGE do not appear on purchased prints.

This painting is one of the dockyard series of 6. This piece is set in the Mechanical Engineers Department (MED) Coppersmiths Shop around the period of 1963. The principle source of heat for bending the pipes into shape was the large coke forge with a forced air blower seen here in the centre of the image, . Overalls or 'ovies' as they were commonly know as, got damp overnight in the shop, so the second job of the morning, after a cup of tea, was to dry out the overalls over the forge.
